T Cu versus a Cu-Ni alloy -270 to 400
The letter type, e.g., type T, identifies a specific temperature-voltage relationship, not a particular chemical composition. Thermocouples of a given type may have variations in composition as long as their resultant temperature-voltage relationships remain within specified tolerances.  All materials manufactured in compliance with the established thermoelectric voltage standards are equally acceptable.
